Currently, I am an Assistant Professor of Communication at Missouri State University. I received my PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my MA from Missouri State University. My research focuses on interpersonal and family communication. In particular, I examine how relational partners communicate during periods of stress or crisis. My work explores elements of identity, social support, and coping within interpersonal relationships. I have been able to apply my research to important relational contexts including grief/loss, military service, and chronic health stressors. I am also active in the application of research by presenting workshops and seminars on interpersonal communication topics for local and state organizations including the City of Springfield, CoxHealth, and the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association. Common topics that I have presented on include managing conflict in the workplace, dealing with intergenerational conflict, inspiring caregivers, and managing difficult personalities.
